London was first populated by Romans 2000 years ago. After the invasion by William the Conquerer in 1066 the building of the nearby Tower of London was begun. The area continued to prosper during the Middle Ages. After the Great Fire of London in 1666, London was rebuilt and the Port grew. This building came much more recently in 1922 and originally housed the Port of London Authority. It is now being renovated to become a hotel.
